Wairakei Resort offers a spacious and enjoyable experience, particularly with its fantastic Christmas lunch and comfortable infinity pools. However, while some areas of the resort have been well-maintained, certain aspects like staff friendliness and room condition could use improvement. Overall, it's a great place for a relaxing getaway, but certain details might not meet everyone’s expectations.

Rooms

The Tauhara King room was lovely but felt a bit smaller than it appeared in photos. The outdated air conditioning made it hard to stay cool on warmer days, and I couldn't fully turn off the heating, which was uncomfortable.
Service
7.0
The service was a mixed bag. While some staff remembered our drink orders and went the extra mile for our children, others didn't come across as friendly. I did appreciate that they were receptive to suggestions.
Location
9.0
Located in the beautiful Wairakei thermal valley, the resort is conveniently near many activities, including the famous Huka Falls. The serene surroundings made for a pleasant weekend escape.
Dining
7.0
Dining experiences varied; the Christmas lunch was exceptional with a great variety of options, but my room service breakfast was cold and disappointing.
Facilities
8.0
The resort boasts clean swimming pools and well-appointed geothermal facilities, although some areas are starting to show their age. Overall, they offer a good variety for a family-friendly getaway.

7.2/10

I've been visiting this hotel for many years and have always looked forward to the breakfast, but this time it was a letdown. While the rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast experience was disappointing. They served it in the room due to restrictions, but the offering was limited, and the quality was subpar. On the positive side, the overall ambiance and the staff were pleasant, but I was shocked by the breakfast situation.

My stay at the resort was wonderful, with exceptional service that made us feel truly special. The facilities, especially the heated pools, were perfect for our family, but the rooms could use some modern updates. Overall, it's a great spot for families and offers good value for money.

Staying at the resort was quite a mixed bag for me. The location is absolutely lovely with beautiful grounds and plenty of outdoor activities available. The rooms, while generally clean, could benefit from air conditioning as the fan wasn't enough to cool them down during a hot spell. Overall, though some of the service aspects left a lot to be desired, particularly during peak dining hours, I appreciated the great amenities and the relaxing pool environment.

Rooms
7.0
The rooms were clean but lacked air conditioning, which made them uncomfortably warm at times.
Service
6.0
Service had its ups and downs; while most staff were friendly, there were times when it felt understaffed, especially during busy periods.
Location
9.0
The location is fantastic with access to beautiful walking paths and proximity to attractions like Honey Village and Huka Falls.
Dining
6.0
The dining experience was decent, though I found the menu a bit outdated with a limited seafood selection.

The facilities were enjoyable, particularly the well-maintained pools which were perfect for relaxation.

I found this resort to be an excellent escape. The staff were incredibly helpful and engaging, which made us feel well taken care of. While the location was peaceful and close to some great activities, I did notice that the carpets in our upgraded room were quite worn and could use some attention. Overall, it was a lovely experience, with a few minor quirks.

Rooms
7.0
We upgraded to a larger room which was spacious and quiet, but the carpet was tired and had some large wrinkles and worn patches.
Service
9.0
The service was excellent and the staff were attentive, making our stay enjoyable and resolving any minor issues efficiently.
Location
8.0
The location was great, just a short drive from the main attractions, and offered a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature.
Dining
7.0
Breakfast was quite adequate; I enjoyed the homemade biscuits, but the dining options were limited and could be better.
Facilities
9.0
The resort had multiple spa pools and thermal baths, which were a definite highlight and perfect for relaxation.
